Simple Ways to Fix DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

When you surf the internet and often some websites are not open and it gives error "This site can't be reached" and below they show an error code "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN". This is a very common issue and almost all users must have seen this issue.

Simple Ways to Fix DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

People usually think of it as a problem with the Internet being down or a device, but not at all. Then restarting the router and re-connecting the LAN and Wi-Fi does not solve this problem. So this whole issue comes down to DNS (Domain Name System).

What is DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) Server This is an important part of the operating system. We visit a lot of websites every day, all of which are stored on a DNS server.

Every website has an IP address just like our computer has a specific IP address so whenever we visit any website DNS helps to visit that website.

Now we have to visit google.com. We know that google.com is a link of google but the computer does not know it. The DNS server that helps the computer understand whether google.com is a link to Google or any other website.

Didn't understand what happened? I give you a good example of a mobile phone so that you can understand better.

Our mobile phone has an app called PhoneBook and all caller numbers in that app are stored with the name.

Now it is very difficult to remember anyone's phone number, so our phone has a phone book feature so that we can save the phone number with the name so that whenever we need to contact that person, we can easily search by name and contact him.

I have to call a friend of mine but I don't know his phone number but his phone number is saved in my phone book, so I can call him.

Thus we have been given the names google.com, yahoo.com, bing.com so that we can easily visit the websites because the IP address is very difficult to remember.

So the DNS server resolves the IP addresses of the websites and makes them visit the site.

What is DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN and Why it is comes?

This error is related with the domain name system. The DNS server in this situation is not able to resolve or translate the website.

This error can also be caused by DNS misconfiguration or Windows Firewall, but you can solve this problem quite easily.

1. DNS Flushing

DNS flushing is a process that removes all the sites and  ip addresses data are stored on the DNS server.

This is a very useful method by which you can bring your system network back to the new system.

  • First you go to the Search Bar or Run and type cmd command and press Enter.
  • Then in the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns.
  • Then type command, ipconfig/release and Enter.
  • Finally, type this ipconfig /renew.

After some processing, close the Command Prompt and restart the system.

2. Changing DNS Server Address

The DNS we normally use on the Internet is provided by our ISP (Internet Service Provider) who are set up in the Internet Router.

By the way, these DNS also work fine, but sometimes they start to cause problems.

That's why many companies also provide public DNS, which is very good and they do not have any problem.

Most people recommend Google's public DNS and that's what I use.

Google DNS Server:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

In this method, we will change the default DNS server of our system to Google's DNS server.

To change the DNS server you need to go to the Network Connection Settings.

  • Press Win + R button or open the Run dialogue box.

Run dialogue box

  • Type ncpa.cpl and Press Enter. Now, you're in the Network Connection settings.
  • Right-click on your Ethernet profile and go to Properties.

Network Connections Settings

  • Now in the Networking tab, you can see the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" option.
  • Click on this, and go to the Properties.

Ethernet Settings

  • Click on "Use the following DNS server addresses:" and this option is activated for editing.

DNS Settings

  • Now you can enter the DNS address.
  • Click on OK button.
